(1) Acupuncture Stories (Degenerative Disk Disease, Low Back Pain)
Mood:  energetic

Many folks are still not aware of what Acupuncture is capable of in terms helping us with health. We hear that it is often great for pain but at the thought of needles, we put it aside and never take the time to find out what it is really all about. This is why this blog was created.
So that each of us can get this info in one place yet from many sources and that we don?t have to settle with ill health. That we do have many options that will help us to become and stay well.
Here is a story for encouragement that even we Acupuncturists appreciate. It?s always good to see factual effective evidence as it give us strength in continually helping others and believe me, we love our work from seeing so many success stories. Thought I would start with these.
The first one comes from one of my Acupuncture friends I went to school with in Florida.
?M? has been seeing this woman for about six weeks now (once a week). She has many health issues. One is commonly called degenerative disk disease in which one of the column disks of the spine has deteriorated. Notice the word, ?degenerative? meaning it can only to get worse and medical science will suggestion as treatment a series of painful steroid shots and surgery as the only answer.
There are many side effects and life threatening risks involved that patients need to be aware of with surgery and steroid injections, and surgery is not always a quick or only fix for their back either! Have had patients come to me AFTER back surgery to get relief from the pain they were experiencing.
Also, I had a lady come to me that had steroid shots to stop an awful pain in her leg that her doctors could not explain. As with surgery, this doesn?t always work either.
After her first acupuncture treatment, it was interesting in that the steroid injections oozed out of the leg and she received immediate relief from pain and with continued visits went away all together.
Now to get back to my friends story; her patient initially had an MRI which showed the spine in its? deteriorated state at the levels of L-5 to S-1(low back). After M worked on her, she was relieved of the pain somewhat and still didn?t take it away all together. Or at least not yet. This patient returned for a second MRI in which she was told by her doctors she no longer needed surgery, that the ?degenerated? disk somehow repaired itself! That is supposed to be impossible.
This is what acupuncture does! It works with the energy also called Qi of the body which in turn improves all bodily functions. Acupuncture has been in use for thousands of years for many many things (to be discussed at a later time). Acupuncture in general, helps the body to repair or balance itself through its own natural processes!
What better way to heal! Now this patient still has some pain issues to deal with and when her Qi becomes more balanced, that will go away completely if she continues to give her body what it requires to heal.
More stories on the way!:)

Stevia, The natural sugar replacement!
Stevia is a plant that is naturally sweet. You can get it from any health food store or online. I have been using it for years and find it quite pleasant in teas(hot or cold) and anything else I like sweetened except for cooked foods. The Japanese, South Americans and Chinese have been using it for Centuries. It regulates blood sugar levels(for all you hypo and hyperglycemics/diabetics, insulin sensitive folks),thus a great mood stablizer.
There are several types to choose from. In powder form you just sprinkle a little and you have sweetened whatever you want. Goes a LONG WAY TOO!
If you want to go REALLY natural,in some stores you can buy Stevia 'leaves'. I recommend the White concentrated powder. It tastes better.Your choice.
